Idioms with Parts of the Body

We often hear idioms, no not the kind you think, not in the sense of a language but more of an expression that has a figurative rather than a literal meaning. For example, when we say ''keep an eye on it'', we can't do that literally, in that case it means to watch something for a determined period of time. Other examples are:
-To keep one's head above water: To stay out of debt (deuda)

''I'm not earning much at my current job right now, I'm trying to keep my head over water''

-To keep someone at arm's length: Not to get too close to someone, keep them at a distance

''I don't know her well, so I try to keep her at arm's length''

-To play by ear: To improvise (improvisar), act in the moment.

''Tomorrow's meeting is not planned very well, we're going to have to play it by ear''

-To know something like the back of one's hand: To be very familiar with something, or to know something very well.
''I know this city like the back of my hand''

-To see eye to eye (with someone) (on something): To agree (estar de acuerdo) with a person or a situation.
''By the end of the meeting we all saw eye to eye on the project''




-To lose heart: To become discouraged (desanimado)
''This project is getting harder and harder, I'm  beginning to lose heart''




-To hold one's tongue: To stay quiet, to say nothing
''I was going to tell her the truth but I held my tongue''

Idioms are very helpful. These sentences have been made up (inventadas) by culture and we hear them everyday. They are like ''sayings'' (dichos). We can find idioms with parts of the body, colors, flavors, and even animals.
